Winvian Farm Getaway

Wednesday, April 22, 2015

In the worst part of the northeastern winter, I headed farther north to Winvian Farm in Connecticut's Litchfield Hills area.  Winvian is self-described as an 113-acre oasis, and that it is.  This vacation was technically a business trip, as the public relations agency I work for represents Winvian, but in sharing a themed, luxury cottage with my friend-turned-colleague, eating truffle oiled eggs, and wandering through the fallen pine needles, I found it impossible to differentiate business from pleasure.  Immediately upon arriving I felt lighter, like a weight was off my shoulders. I try to meditate often and when I arrived at Winvian I felt like I'd just meditated for an hour.  The air was pure and crisp and the stars were visible.  Being in that open land made me feel more at one with everything.

Winvian Farm boasts three acres of vegetable and flower gardens and an apiary, among other attributes. The free visit did sweeten the experience, but it did not need any extra benefits: the grounds at Winvian speak for themselves...and so does the non-GMO, organic, locally sourced food.  It's delicious and I'm not just saying that because I work for them.  It's just damn good - go if you're in the area, even if it's just for a meal or a spa treatment (overnights are well worth it).
